The objective of the Inclusive Housing Summit is to explore models of inclusive living for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and advocate for their development and funding in North Carolina. This year we will be exploring how to keep inclusive housing development moving forward despite the challenging state and federal climate. We will also hear from an I/DD advocate tips for advocating for change. The content is tailored toward developers, non-profits, parent groups, town/city/municipalities who are interested in increasing the housing options for adults with I/DD. Join us!

Breakout Sessions (will repeat in the morning and the afternoon, so you will choose 2 to attend, one for the morning session and one for the afternoon session)

Session A: What do recent Medicaid and HUD cuts mean to I/DD supports and housing? —

Session B: NC Inclusive Housing Coalition: How groups are working across NC on I/DD inclusive housing—

Presenters from Indie Tree (Charlotte), Living Hope (Wilkesboro) and a third TBD

Session C: How state organizations are addressing inclusive housing—

Presenters from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) and the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS)

Session D: Thinking outside the box—Strategic Partnerships for Inclusive Housing—

Presenters from Habitat for Humanity of Orange with HOPE NC & Habitat for Humanity of Wake with Building Independence

New this year—LME/MCO FULL SESSION PANEL:

We will have a panel present to all summit attendees in the afternoon of the summit. We will be highlighting all 4 LME/MCO’s and their work on creating inclusive I/DD housing across the state! There will be time for question and answer as well.

Meet our Keynote Speaker!

Liz Weintraub has a long history of leadership in self-advocacy and has held many board and advisory positions at state and national organizations. She is a full time member of the AUCD's policy team and also the host of "Tuesdays With Liz: Disability Policy For All," where she makes policy language understood by all.

Liz has served as a Fellow for Senator Casey of Pennsylvania, working in her DC Office where she helped lead the way on disability policy. Senator Casey said, "Liz has shown the Senate how important it is to have staff members who have developmental and intellectual disabilities. She's helped reshape the culture of the Senate." Liz has also shared her personal experience as a woman with disabilities in many venues, including written and oral testimony for Senate Committees on the topic of civil rights of people with disabilities.

Prior to coming to AUCD, Liz worked for the Council on Quality & Leadership (CQL). Liz is an alumni of the LEND training program at the Center for Leadership in Disability at Georgia State University. Liz was a past chair of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council. Liz has received numerous awards, recognition, and commendations for her work. Liz enjoys mentoring people with disabilities.
