HOPE Begins With You

Get Involved:Building Inclusive Communities Together

Creating inclusive, community-based housing across North Carolina takes many forms of engagement. Whether you’re a business leader, advocate, self-advocate, educator, or volunteer, there are meaningful ways to be part of this work.

Meaningful change doesn’t happen in isolation. Expanding inclusive, community-based housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across North Carolina requires collaboration, shared commitment, and local action.

Together, we can scale impact, address local needs, and build communities where everyone can live and thrive.

Become a HOPE NC Partner

We are grateful to our community partners who stand alongside us — helping strengthen systems, elevate voices, and expand access to housing that supports independence, dignity, and belonging across every region of the state.

Living independently in the community remains out of reach for many North Carolinians due to critical systemic barriers— including workforce shortages, lack of service providers, and long waiting lists for Medicaid Innovation Waivers.

HOPE NC, along with many other organizations, is working to address these challenges through advocacy. It’s critical to stay informed, understand the legislative process, and engage with policymakers to share how these issues affect you and your family.

Self-advocates play a vital role in this work—sharing lived experience, participating in advocacy projects, and helping shape solutions that reflect real community needs.

Advocacy & Self-Advocacy

HOPE NC’s annual Inclusive Housing Summit brings together leaders from the disability, housing, and aging fields—alongside family members and self-advocates—to explore what inclusive living can look like in North Carolina.

The Summit highlights best practices, innovative models, and policy solutions that support inclusive housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, while building momentum for statewide action and investment.

Inclusive Housing Summit

HOPE NC relies on passionate, committed volunteers to help move this work forward. From finance and law to housing development, governance, and communications, volunteers bring essential skills that help turn vision into action.

If you’re passionate about making your community more inclusive—and want to contribute your time and expertise—there’s a place for you at HOPE NC.
