Garden Wellness Series at Grosvenor Gardens

If you have ever visited Grosvenor Gardens, you know that our pavilion is surrounded by lush greenery, making it the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature. This past Tuesday, our residents had the opportunity to do just that. We were joined by Forrest, a local horticulturist and yoga instructor, who taught us light stretching techniques and basic plant care.

We started the day with gentle stretches designed to help us unwind and relax. Stretching can improve blood circulation, promote mindfulness, and support overall well-being. We hoped residents would leave with a few simple techniques they could continue practicing on their own.

After spending some time centering ourselves, residents had the chance to paint their very own flower pots. Most chose to let their creativity run free, decorating their pots with unique designs and personal touches. One resident painted their pot a bright blue and decorated it with little suns. Another wrote the word "love" in a different language. Each pot reflected the personality and creativity of its creator.

To wrap up the activity, Forrest showed us how to carefully pot our herbs. The fresh scent of rosemary and basil filled the pavilion as residents gently loosened the roots and repotted their plants with fresh soil. Once the herbs were settled into their new homes, each resident took turns watering them until water flowed from the drainage holes at the bottom of the pots.

Gardening can be a therapeutic and rewarding activity. It not only supports mental well-being but can also encourage greater sustainability and food access. Through our Garden Wellness activities, we aim to create opportunities for residents to improve their physical and mental health, strengthen social connections, and learn practical skills, all while having fun.

At Grosvenor Gardens, we hope to continue offering programs like these and eventually establish our own community garden. We invite you to follow along on our journey!
